Birds in the yard are the best thing that can happen – I don’t know about you, but I hear the birds all the time and can’t stop admiring their song. Not only that, but it’s always interesting to see them fight over a grain of wheat or how they make the mistake of alerting a friend about a sneaky cat. We can’t forget the benefits either: Birds provide biodiversity in the backyard, so we can expect to grow a natural, organic crop more easily. And how to attract those birds?

When the birds decide to settle in the yard

In order for birds to visit the yard more often, they can be helped:

Raise the nests;
Suitable plants for plants;
Just don’t disturb.

As for the third point, birds often adapt and find a suitable place to nest. Shelters of both new houses and abandoned buildings, woodsheds, rarely used auxiliary buildings, in which they like to hide, are suitable for this. white tail smoky or common red-tailed, gray flycatcher and other wings. However, the purpose of this article is to find out which plants birds like. Plants may be important to them for two reasons:

A plant for nesting and hatching;
A plant as a food source.

Density is an important factor, because in such plants birds can safely settle and hide from domestic cats or wild predators. So, if you want to provide a safe haven for birds, it is recommended to plant various hedges in the yard:

• Hawthorns – when it is thick, even in winter without leaves, the hawthorn hedge becomes practically opaque, which means it is safe for birds;

• Raugerškis bushes – they have thorns, those birds will hide safely there;

• Mountain currant – the plant is used less and less as a hedge, but it is perfectly suited to the accommodation of birds, so it is unnecessarily forgotten;

• Thuja and all the other bushes that are constantly forming, because then the branches are extremely dense.

Plants that backyard birds can feed on

To attract birds, I would recommend growing bushes and trees that keep colorful berries or fruits on the branches as long as possible. This will make it easier for the birds to find food and survive the dark period. Here are some ideas on what plants you can choose:

• Perfect fit Putinbecause its berries remain red for a long time and birds can be satisfied with them;

• Apple of paradise and other decorative apple trees – they look beautiful, so they can grow in the yard and representative area. And the birds will benefit when they find another apple in the winter. Furthermore, you can use paradise apples for Christmas decorations;

• Blackberrieswhich attract attention with their large orange clusters in the second half of the year. They also bloom beautifully in spring;

• Yes, junipers, whose berries do not interest us at all, but become a great delicacy for birds;

• Black elderberry, chokeberry, sea buckthorn and other bushes with berries;

• Cardiwho ripen their own apples.

Birds that usually live in our neighborhood

• Thistle thrush – a common bird for us, found in meadows, parks and gardens. Thrushes usually spend the winter in our gardens, so you may see them enjoying apples or berries left over from winter;

• Black thrush – they are easy to confuse with a starling, but note that their melodies are different. It’s especially fun to listen to on early spring evenings as the sun sets. This is the obvious difference, because starlings do not sing during this period. It happens that black thrushes also winter in Lithuania;

• Nine voices. These are small birds, many of which often breed in our gardens: black, gray, brown head. They are insectivorous birds and do not winter here, but also visit the berry bushes in late summer;

• Transfer – a bird well known to all, we are not the only ones who have built a nest for it (and you?..). In May they put out their young, and in June they begin to gather, preparing for migration, so at this time you can often see them eating berries.
