▷ Plants that bring money? Here are some good luck ideas

Regardless of whether or not you believe that something can really bring good luck, any excuse is a good one to talk about plants and so let’s not miss the opportunity and immediately present 3 plants potentially bringing good luck and money!

1. Pilea peperomioides – Chinese Coin Plant

Pilea is a wonderful plant, I have always adored it, as it is a versatile and rapid growing plant, with the right care (we talked about it in this article) but let’s review what I consider the fundamental steps for growing our Pilea peperomioides:

the only known cause of death for this plant isexcess wetting. It is recommended to water it only when the ground is not dry but dry.

The key aspect is light: I consider it a plant that loves bright environments and direct light it is tolerable if it is slowly introduced to this condition (i.e. it stays in front of the window all year round). In winter I consider all the direct light that can be provided to be useful BUT…don’t be alarmed if in autumn and winter the Pachira loses some leaves, it’s very normal and you will see that in spring it will give them back to you with interest.
Although it adapts to areas that are not too bright on its own maximum with a beautiful diffused light!
The names of plants very often tell us something about how to grow them and, for me, Pachira aquatica has always been a plant that it does well with slightly fresh soil. In winter, however, we can let it dry well before watering again.
In fact, even in the warm months it proved to be a lot more resistant to drought than I thought, so much so that you won’t be affected if you reach the point of wilting by giving it a drink when the leaves get a little soft.
Even when it comes to temperatures it proves to be more tenacious than it seems, the important thing is not to let it freeze, but even below the ideal range of 10-25°C it tolerates very welllet’s say that we can make it reach, step by step, even 5°C.

The legend of the Pachira aquatica

The story linked to Pachira aquatica begins in Taiwan, where a very superstitious elderly farmer lived after having dedicated his entire life to work, without ever being able to indulge in anything. One day, as usual, he went to the fields and noticed a small unusual plant near his farm. Reflecting to himself, he thought, “I have never seen such a fascinating plant before… ah, perhaps God heard my prayers and granted me the opportunity to get rich!” Carefully, he took the plant home and began to explore and study this amazing and beautiful plant.

The farmer discovered that the plant was extremely hardy and required little care. It was strong and tolerant of low light and dry soil. It was enough to water it once a month or when the soil was completely dry. Its beautiful light green leaves unfurled on the stem, growing one after the other to up to five leaves. It is said that it is incredibly lucky to find one with seven leaves. Eventually, the farmer grew these plants from seeds and sold them in the market. They sold out quickly, requested more and more frequently. Thus, he named the plant “Good luck money tree“or”Good luck tree“.

The difference between Pachira aquatica and Pachira glabra

Pachira aquatica is often sold as Pachira glabra (they are really identical in the juvenile state, but some differences can be noted:

In the bark
P. aquatica has a gray woody bark, while that of P. glabra is smoother, greenish/grey;
In the trunk
P. aquatica will only develop a swollen trunk with age;
In the flowers (which we will never see)
P. aquatica has red-tipped petals and red anthers, while the flowers of P. glabra are all white;
In the seeds (which we will never see p.2)
P. glabra seeds are green rather than brown and are half the size of P. aquatica seeds

3. Crassula ovata – jade tree

Another plant included in the principles of feng shui as a bringer of prosperity and wealth is the Crassula ovata.

A truly interesting plant with which to test your green thumb because it is within everyone’s reach.

It is a plant that loves bright solutions, it comes from South Africa, where it can tolerate very high temperatures, around 40°Cand sudden and heavy showers that alternate with periods of drought.

I talked about Crassulaceae in one of the latest videos where I gave instructions on how to protect succulents and succulent plants from the cold and, if you remember, generally this family has a good tolerance even at low temperatures: the jade tree can in fact tolerate even short excursions slightly below zero (which is in any case better prevented), this is to say that it is a plant with truly extensive tolerance ranges.

It is also very resistant to waterbut to best support its growth I find it functional not to make it suffer too much thirst during the growth months (from April to September) while in autumn it is best to reduce watering until they stop in order to induce a resting phase in conjunction with temperatures around 5°C. (it is best not to manage it as a houseplant but as an outdoor plant sensitive to frost).

Trick: to make it branch, when we are in the growing season, we cut a finger above the leaf scar at the point where we want to branch. The resulting material is very easy to root in water after it has formed a dry, calloused tissue (usually a couple of days is enough).

Even some leaf falling on it is a great start to form a new young plant and it will be enough to root it in water or in a light soil. Cuttings rooted in water should be moved to soil when the rootlets are about a centimeter long, it is very important not to wait too long!
